Creating an Online Course the Right Way as a Side-Hustle

Do you want to start an online course , but you need a little bit of guidance?

Maybe you would like to start on an online side-hustle and you think making an online course is the right approach to start your online business.

Well, in this post, I am going to tell you how you can build a course the right way and scale it online.

What is an Online Course?

First of all, we should talk about what an online course is.

An online course is a transformation guide that takes your students from point A to point B.

When you want to start an online course, you should know the level of the skill that you have. Since that skill will the source of that information that you will provide.

I’m not saying that you should be an expert about this topic, however, you should have a certain level of skill to teach your students.

Let’s say you are a math teacher. With your expertise, you can teach highschool students but not university professors. That means, although you cannot teach university students, you can teach high school students.

Your target audience should be about the level of the skill that you have.

Creating a Course Outline

After figuring out your skill that you want to monetize, first you should create an outline about the course. Keep in mind that your students bought this course from you, because they want to go from point A to point B. And they trusted you with their money to offer this transformation for them.

So, make sure to take your time to brainstorm and figure out how you can guide your students gradually and step by step to reach point B.

One of the tricks that always works for me when I create an online course, is where I put myself as one of my target audience and I think to myself: What kind of course do I like to enroll in that offers me a step-by-step guide to help me enhance my skills?

After that, I am able to create an engaging step-by-step guide course to help my students take their skills to the next level.

Choosing Your Course Style

Next, you would want to choose the style of the course that you want to sell. Are you filming on a DSLR camera and then edit texts on the screen in the postproduction?

Or maybe you are using PowerPoint and not showing yourself at all.

The thing is, there is no right course style. This all depends on the topic of the course.

Think to yourself, what course style would benefit your students the most and help them understand the topic the best way?

Is your course something about designs? Then you would need a drawpad.

Are you showing someone how to build a WordPress website? Then you would need to record your screen to show your students the steps on how to register a hosting, installing WordPress and all the steps necessary for them to achieve the goal at the end of the course.

Where to Sell Your Course

Next, you would want to know where to sell your course.

This totally depends on your vision. Do you want to handle all the marketing funnels, email marketing and having a good budget to launch you own online school?

Or you want to start slow and have someone do all the marketing for you?

After you figure this out, then you can either create an online school on teachable or start selling your course on marketplaces like Udemy or Skillshare.

Teachable offers you the chance to create your own online school. Please check this link to know more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVY2G6X0YuM
